Time Converted to Dollars – Onsite Fingerprinting Event -vs- Offsite Location Appointment

When you consider the cost and time it takes to send each employee individually for fingerprint appointments, it may make better sense to sponsor an onsite fingerprinting event and have a large group done in a day!  Below is rundown of some of the expenses you may incur when sending employees or candidates to get fingerprints done.  Numbers based on a staff of about 45 people, for the example.

  1. Time for Each Employee
    • Travel Time: Round-trip to and from the fingerprinting location.
    • Processing Time: Time spent at the facility for fingerprinting.
    • Idle Time: Potential delays or waiting at the facility.
    • Estimated Total Time per Employee: 2 hours.
  2. Employee Hourly Rate
    • Base Hourly Wage: $25 (this example excludes benefits and overhead costs).
  3. Number of Employees
    • Multiply the total time per employee by the hourly rate and the number of employees.
    • Example: 45 employees × 2 hours × $25/hour = $2,250.
  4. Additional Costs (Optional but Relevant)
    • Lost Productivity: If fingerprinting occurs during work hours, calculate lost output or costs to provide substitutes.
    • Mileage Reimbursement: For employees using personal vehicles.
      Example: Facility is 7 miles away (round trip = 14 miles). Reimbursement rate: $0.67/mile × 14 miles = $9.38 per employee. Total: $9.38 × 45 employees = $422.10.
